My first post-college job was working as a webmaster for a multinational manufacturing firm. It was 1999, when the web was commercially three years old. I had no vocational training in it, but I was nonetheless hired for my experience of numerous part-time jobs and assorted web technologies I knew up to that point.

Skills are like labels; everyone gets them and everyone uses them but they are just words to describe other words, categories.

If you can prove your worth beyond the categories, that's the stuff heroes are built from.
